Personal reading is at the heart of everything we do. We have a passion for the sound of pages turning! We have been actively involved in the First Minister's Reading Challenge for a number of years and we are proud to have been highly commended in the Reading Inspiration category three times (2019, 2021 and 2022) due to the enthusiasm and engagement of our pupils.
Within our lessons, we focus on developing pupils' skills in reading, writing, listening and talking through engagement with a range of texts and topics.
At the start of all lessons for our BGE pupils, we read for ten minutes. Pupils can select books from the school library, our classroom libraries or bring a book from home. We encourage pupils to track their reading so that they can feel a sense of achievement at the end of the year.
